Terry Hankins/Argus Courier
I was born in Arcadia, California and have lived all over southern California from San Diego to Riverside to Laguna Beach and in-between. I have been drawing and painting for as long as I can remember. In high school I received a scholarship for a life drawing class at Chouinards Art School in Los Angeles. That exposure to the adult art world pointed the direction I wanted to go in life but I became sidetracked later. Married and raising two sons, I went back to college and majored in psychology. I received my BA in 1976 and then completed most of my graduate work towards a Master’s degree from Cal. State Long Beach. At that point I realized I was headed in the wrong direction - I guess the degree in psychology helped me with some self-analysis. I quit school and started painting full time while taking many art classes at the local Junior Colleges and then went on to take many workshops with artists such as Charles Movalli, Duane Wakeham, Edward Norton Ward, David Jonas, Dolores D’Pharr, Carol Katchen, Glenna Hartmann, Richard McDaniel, Gil Delinger, Daniel Greene, Anita Hampton, Ann Templeton and others.
In 1997 my husband and I moved to Sonoma county and enjoyed the rural life for a few years. We now reside in Petaluma, a small town in the south part of the county where I have my studio. I have taught occasional plein air workshops both around the beautiful countryside near my home and in southern California. My paintings are in many collections both in the United States and Japan. Some of my corporate collectors include Sprint, Kaiser-Permanente and U.C. Davis Medical Center.
